Kevin Chappell Took an 11-under 59 on Friday in the next round of A Military Tribute to Capture only the 11th sub-60 round in PGA Tour history.
The American equalled his compatriot Mark Calcavecchia’s set of eight birdies at a round on the PGA Tour, place at the 2009 Canadian Open in doing this.
Chappell – playing since returning after 10 months after surgery that was back – overlooked that a 10-foot birdie putt to collapse per stroke short of the championship album of Jim Furyk.
The 33-year-old started with a par then birdied the next eight holes prior to adding additional birdies at holes 1, 5 and 7 to make the turn in 28 and is now 10 under for the tournament, with opened with a 71.
Furyk set the record 2016 in the final round of this Travelers Championship with a 58.
It was the first round about the PGA Tour since Brandt Snedeker’s 59 in the 2018 Wyndham Championship.
Stuart Appleby shot at 59 in The Greenbrier in the last round in 2010 to win by one stroke at its inaugural season.
