Liverpool director Jurgen Klopp’s parties at the final whistle at Stamford Bridge offered a window into the value of victory from his 150th Premier League match in charge.
Klopp’s impact on Liverpool in that span has been astounding, in creating them culminating European champions for the sixth time with victory over Tottenham in Madrid in June.
And yet Klopp’s listing in domestic affairs is also powerful, in that time period along with his tally of 92 victories.
It didn’t really bring the title last season, when Manchester City pipped them even though Liverpool losing only one league game – but revived belief is surging by those fans who celebrated by Klopp in the close of this 2-1 triumph over Chelsea that gave the Reds maximum points from six games.
This is a Liverpool aspect building the platform for what Klopp they hope are the yield of their league title – their holy grail – after having a wait.
Liverpool dug deep to win on Sunday and be the first group to take maximum points from their first six matches in consecutive seasons.
They have now won their previous 15 league matches, with only competitions City putting a streak that was longer together in top-flight history, even when they won 18 between December and August 2017.
Few title wins are pretty as a picture since a number of the Liverpool have imposed on opponents in his 149 games but those 3 factors will be pleasing to the attention of Klopp.
Since Klopp rightly said:”You will never win at Chelsea without putting a suitable change in and we did this today.
“It is exceptional. What can I say? We must keep going. We’ve not had these games however although it never seems as simple as it did for Manchester City against Watford. We have had to work for it.”
Klopp is usually revived however, the body language from his technical area in Stamford Bridge was telling, both during and after a game where Liverpool were placed under higher stress than they have been for some time.
He was nonstop in the first whistle, and particularly if Chelsea threatened to wipe out their two-goal lead.
Klopp fist-pumped his torso at his players’ management, exhorting effort. The German’s shouts carried rows back. He chased up and down on the spot when ownership was squandered. He engaged official Kevin Friend and Chelsea counterpart Frank Lampard in lengthy conversation on more than one event.
Then, when the final whistle went, Klopp’s ecstasy was apparent as he travelled around every member of his team and players prior to tapping his heart in front.
In the space of these 150 Premier League matches Klopp has had a transformative effect on Liverpool, fulfilling his first mission to”turn doubters into believers” and then a few.
Not many of the team from Klopp’s launching game off to Spurs on 17 October 2015 remain. While Divock Origi is hurt at Chelsea, Adam Lallana and James Milner were to the seat.
No-one have to underestimate the brilliance and resilience of Manchester City, not only in responding to defeat Norwich by thrashing Watford but also the manner in which they overhauled and stayed ahead of Liverpool last season.
What is telling you is that Liverpool’s Champions League win decorations not sated it and seems to have sharpened their appetite for victory. The Premier League is now their avowed mission.
They have shown themselves capable of kinds of victories and this was one of the variety that was eye-catching, but both valuable and offering Klopp a look at the other face of their group.
It’s one of the old adages of a Premier League title-winning year the key to success is winning exactly those events although liverpool were nowhere close to their best.
And, as a bonus, Liverpool are capable of scoring kinds of targets.
Individual brilliance from the likes of Roberto Firmino Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane along with the moves really are a familiar sight.
However, equally from routines, the header of Firmino and Trent strike, meant Liverpool have scored 34 objects from set-pieces because the start of last season than every other team.
If Liverpool aren’t performing at their finest, Klopp demands courage, endurance, commitment – the other types of excellence and quality he’s drilled into his side over 150 games.
Those qualities were needed here. Liverpool delivered to Klopp’s demands – and also the Anfield juggernaut rolls .
