N’Golo Kante will miss Chelsea’s trip to Wolves on Saturday and remains a doubt for Games from Valencia and Liverpool next week.
Kante missed of France’s fixtures during the global break with a foot injury and a return against pilots is”too soon”, manager Frank Lampard confirmed on Friday.
Chelsea play Valencia in their opening Champions League game on Wednesday, before hosting Liverpool Sunday.
“I don’t need to jump the gun because we’re waiting for advancement to fulfill that final step for him to where we need him to be about the pitch again,” Lampard said. “But that is going to be in a week or so.”
Mateo Kovacic (Achilles) and Pedro (hamstring) are all fit to play against pilots, whereas Antonio Rudiger is going to probably likely be available after recovering from a knee injury that finished last season for the defender.
Chelsea have conceded nine goals in their Premier League games this season, with Norwich with a record.
“It’s a choice for myself, but he’ll have a significant role,” said Lampard, when requested if Rudiger would go straight into Chelsea’s defence. “We’ve missed him we have with a few more front-line players.
“I don’t need a young team for the interest of it. He can be powerful. He’s about to take on those functions.”
Lampard said he was”pleased” to see Mason Mount make his England debut during the international break, but put pressure on the 20-year-old to maintain up performances.
“This is the place where the evaluation ramps up,” said former England and Chelsea midfielder Lampard.
Tammy Abraham, 21, also obtained a warning not to allow his place is seized by rivals in Chelsea’s beginning line-up – after four goals.
“I want more, he needs more, they need more – and they’ll have to,” said Lampard.” [Olivier] Giroud, [Michy] Batshuayi – they want that position so all of them must be on their feet.”
