A branch is being moved up by the cruiserweight champion after his knockout win over Tony Bellew in November and will face Spong.
Spong includes 13 knockouts such as last weekend stoppage win over Jeyson Minda, at 14 battle, and Usyk has voiced his admiration for the 33-year-old.
“Spong is a quick and strong heavyweight that has had much success in the ring,” said Usyk. “I have to come through this evaluation to battle on the world heavyweight title. I look forward to seeing everybody there.”
An kick boxer, Spong now relishes the challenge of confronting one of the world boxers.
The Surinamese-Dutchman, who’s ranked at # 4 by the WBO, said:”After achieving almost all of my aims as a kick boxer and getting among the most decorated champions in the history of the sport, I wanted to check myself in the hard and challenging game of boxing.
“I’ve worked tirelessly during the past 3 years and have the opportunity to show my worth as a fighter against perhaps the best pound-for-pound, and most technically sound fighter on the planet.
“Some may believe the challenge might be too difficult, but I think in myself, and anticipate being successful on October 12.”
Promoter Eddie Hearn said:”Usyk’s heavyweight debut is among the most hotly anticipated boxing moments of 2019 and , I can’t wait to watch it.
“Oleksandr is a phenomenon that dominated the cruiserweight branch becoming swollen after only 15 fights.
