Tottenham are”more dangerous” after a bad run of results that has left them like a injured boxer, states Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Spurs have won each of their past 17 matches – after losing on penalties from League 2 Colchester United, and on Tuesday night that they crashed at the next round out of this Carabao Cup.
Hasenhuttl takes his Saints side-by-side London on Saturday -“it’s a major challenge, but we like these challenges” – and also the Austrian is wary of confronting the wrath of a frustrated Spurs team.
“As always, like a fighter, if he is knocked a tiny bit he is even more harmful, so listen” , stated Hasenhuttl before Saturday’s trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“We don’t seem too much on them. I think it’s important for all of us to concentrate on our qualities. We know it’s a huge obstacle, but we like these challenges.
“Our last away games were quite good – much better than our house games – so we are not frightened about this particular game, we love to go there.
“It is on usand the way we think in our qualities and the way we learn to compete against the large teams away from your home. If we do not do this it’s difficult, in away games it must be ideal.
“It’s never an edge against a major team if they’re struggling as you must always be conscious of the quality they have. We anticipate the hardest opponent we can envision.”
Spurs director Mauricio Pochettino attained success in their own spell taking them to an eight-placed end from the Premier League – the highest in the club history.
Hasenhuttl is the admirer of the predecessor Pochettino that he states took Spurs”by a really fighting team to a Champions League finalist”.
“I believe he did a fantastic job in Tottenham. I believe it’s incredible the job he can there,” added Hasenhuttl.
Last year Hasenhuttl was victorious in his first meeting from Pochettino – although the Argentine wasn’t present from the dugout owing to his rant at referee Mike Dean.
“Last year, he was not allowed to sit on the bench, so perhaps that is the reason why we could take the three things,” he added.
“I don’t know how we won this game because they should have been up by four in the first half. Therefore it was a really great second half. We had a few great subs from the half-time and we took more risks.
“If you wish to take points against such a group, you will need a nearly ideal performance, and even then you are not sure.”
